Erika Robuck

Okay, so check out my friend Erika Robuck’s site. She is a self-published author recently picked up by a national firm and also it just so happens that I went from little school on up with her, which makes us special to the other in my opinion because we hold the bones of one another’s long history of writing. (She never ceases to remind me of my play Never Tear Us Apart in the 7th grade and I her of the historical fiction she’d hand me under the desk, in her neat blue cursive all roundy curls and fat a’s on shaggy lined loose leaf, in Ms. Fouse’s Language Arts class.)

First, her novel Receive Me Falling on Amazon. This is historical fiction and worthy of a summer read for the strength of her protagonist Catherine, a plantation and slave owner on the Caribbean Isle of Nevis during the sugarcane industry of the 1800’s. A fine crafting of tale unfolds on this island, with the subtleties of Catherine's moral dilemmas at perfect play against the slow building climax of the mystery which brings us to the Island in the first place. Truly, there were sections of this book when I found myself unable to put it down, or else skipping ahead to find out what would happen next.

(Usually this is when I gush about how super proud I am of her….)

So, first thing I want you to do dear reader, jump here and purchase her book (then go review her on Amazon to boost her ratings.) Then go here, and put Erika’s blog in your favorites, because if you are a bookie then you must trust me: I have watched her blog evolve in to a reliable source for good reads. And homegrl devours books the way I get down on, oh I don’t know say sunshine or Mexican food or live music playing outside. Like she can’t get enough and is always posting about her latest read. Fine, intelligent posts that make me want to be in a class she teaches or some such thing...

Which brings us to the part where I gush over my excitement that she is also my new writing buddy, which means not only am I embarking on a new creative venture, but I have someone infinitely inspiring to be doing so with, as well. Which is partly why I haven't been around much lately.

And that’s what I have to say about that.
